The White City of Tel Aviv is a collection of over 4,000 Bauhaus-style buildings built in the 1930s and 1940s. It is located in central Tel Aviv, Israel and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. The buildings were designed by a group of architects, mostly of German-Jewish origin, who fled Europe during the rise of the Nazis. They brought with them the modernist principles of the Bauhaus school, which emphasized functionality, simplicity, and an emphasis on light and air.
